Resumen:
Bio-oils can betransformed into transportation fuels and valuable chemical products by means of catalyticprocessing. The conversion of bio-oil obtained from soybean shell overhigh alumina, SiO2-Al2O3 active matricesformulated to facilitate the pre-cracking of bulky hydrocarbon molecules in FCCresid processing, is studied in this work. Results are compared against thoseobtained when Y zeolite was incorporated to the matrices in order to reproducecommercial typical FCC catalysts and evaluate the effect of the main catalystcomponents. The results suggest that the matrix in FCC catalysts mayplay a key role in the conversion of bio-oils into hydrocarbons. The additionof Y zeolite to form compound catalysts with silica-alumina matrices improvesbio-oil deoxygenation and reduces coke yield significantly. Another consequencewas that the selectivity to olefins decreased and the selectivity to aromaticsincreased for hydrocarbons in the gasoline boiling range. The matrices favorprimary deoxygenation and cracking reactions on the bio-oil components, whilethe zeolite promotes the conversion of intermediate olefinic products intoaromatics. The composition of the matrices does not show a significantinfluence on the selectivity to the liquid products.
