Resumen:
The isobutane alkylation process with butenes can be carried out using solid acid catalysts, instead of fluorhydric or sulphuric acid. However, the fast deactivation that takes place when using the catalysts that display good activity for this reaction, has limited the industrial application of this technology, based on solid acid catalysts. A variety of solid catalysts and operation and regeneration technologies have been studied. In this work, the results obtained in different regeneration strategies studied in our group, for several catalysts formulation, are analyzed. This include the regeneration under an oxygen containing carrier gas at medium and high temperatures, the addition of metals in order to use hydrogen during the regeneration or air at low temperature, the use of ozone, solvent extraction, and liquid oxidizers such as hydrogen peroxide. The analysis of these results is very useful in order to propose research lines to develop new solid acid catalysts and operation/regeneration modes, in order to solve the deactivation problem to use solid acid catalysts during the isobutane alkylation process.
