Resumen:
In this work, the immersion process was used to immobilize the Degussa P25 photocatalyst onto a foam walls (AISI 314 50ppi). The TiO2 powder presents operational problems with catalyst loss. Therefore, the use of immobilized catalysts would avoid this extra recovering step, thus reducing costs and environmental impacts. The foams were characterized before and after TiO2 immobilization by different techniques. The results indicated a mass increase in immobilized foams of 25%, shows a good film adherence on the foam walls in the ultrasonic procedure and maintenance of the anatase phase in the immobilized catalyst. In addition to these promising results, the photocatalytic performance of the immobilized TiO2 foams is currently being evaluated for different water treatment processes. The preliminary results indicate that TiO2 foam photocatalytic activities are comparable to that of the commercial TiO2 mesh.
