Resumen:
Structured reactors are currently used in many chemical reactions. These systems consist of a catalytic formulation deposited as a thin film onto an inert matrix.Novel examples of substrates are metallic foams due to their inherent advantages, like high heat and mass transfer coefficients and good mixing of reagents. On the other hand, production of light olefins, specifically ethylene, is an interesting reaction because it is an intermediate compound for the production of valuable products. Nowadays, this olefin is mainly produced by steam cracking, the most energy-consuming process in the petrochemical industry. In this context, powder and structured Ni and Ni-Co alumina-supported catalytic systems were characterized by different techniques and were tested in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane.
