Resumen:
Title:INFLUENCE OF ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS DURING EARLY DEVELOPMENTKeywords: enriched environment; stress; animal model; development.Abstract:Enriched environmental conditions during early raising have positive consequences regarding cognitive, emotional and social development; increasing learning, memory and stress coping abilities. These improvements correlate with increased neurogenesis, synaptic density or neurotrophic factors.Weaned Balb/C mice were placed from postnatal day (PD) 21 in either standard (C) or enriched environment (EE) housing conditions. EE is an experimental protocol in which animals are housed in big cages with tunnels, platforms, toys, wheels and other sensory and social stimuli. Behavioral testing was performed on PD 60 using three protocols: Open Field (which evaluates exploratory behavior), Elevated Plus Maze (anxiety response) and Object In Place (context-dependent memory)Results indicate better performance during OIP testing (with a tendency towards male mice) and decreased anxiety response to novel or stressful situations from the EE group compared to its control. This work presents evidence on the impact of environmental conditions during early years of development.
