Resumen:
The purpose of this book is to offer an up-to-date and comprehensive review of the anatomy, systematics, and evolution of South American dinosaurs within paleogeographic and paleoecological contexts. To carry out this task, I review information from a variety of sources, most of them published in Spanish and Portuguese. Firsthand observations of dinosaur specimens from South America form an important part of the book, as well as comparisons with forms discovered in other Gondwanan landmasses. Current understandings of phylogeny, paleoecology, and paleobiogeography are considered in light of current controversies. Main geological events (e.g., diastrophism, volcanism, continental breakup) as well as faunal and floristic changes that occurred in South America are also briefly examined.
