Abstract:This paper synthesizes the results of a project on the monumental industrial complex: the ancient Arizu winery in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza (it covers a surface over 37.000 m2), with the objective of a restoration project to rehabilitate, consolidate and to know the possibility to make the place habitable. Our goal is to get an integral evaluation -historical architectural and structural - starting with the description and the analysis of the main components of the buildings declared National Historical Monument.In the field of the heritage conservation it is usual to consider the historical-cultural values of the buildings to take the initial decision. Architecture - formal, esthetical, and functional ? and the historical aspects are considered, but the structures, materials and constructive systems are not taking in account in the decision process.The structural consolidation problems (critical in seismic areas) are considered after taking the conservation decision and often derivates to engineers without knowledge in this field. This way of working is habitual our country and usually end in damages interventions on the buildings.This article describes how the articulation of engineering, architectural and historical evaluations from the beginning permit to overcome the problem mentioned above.
