Resumen:
Some plants produce, as a protection against pathogens and predators, some photosensitive molecules that, when excited with light of a given wavelength, produce toxic effects on biomolecules and cells, destroying them. These photosensitive natural structures could be useful as antimicrobials, being an alternative for the treatment of microbial infections including fungal ones. The use of photoantifungal compounds has many advantages for the traditional antifungal treatments, such as broad spectrum of action, low probability of generating photo-resistant strains, minimum damage to the host healthy tissues consistency with other antifungal therapies and low cost
