In general, livestock is one of the main economic activities with marked effects on the ecosystems function. However, some practices associated with tree retention could reduce this problem while maintaining productivity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association of different modalities of livestock management (open pastures and silvopastoral systems) with the vegetation structure of riparian forests and water quality in streams in the province of Misiones. The water quality in silvopastoral systems was more similar to that of the native forest than open pastures. Our results support the idea that the cattle modality and the riparian forest are key to maintaining good water quality in the streams.
