Resumen:
Pd-based binary and ternary alloys have attracted considerable attention in a wide range of applications such as catalysis and separation; often because their performance is influenced by surface composition and/or structure. Long-term hydrogen dissociation on Pd-based alloys has been related to surface segregation effects, induced by the interaction with strongly adsorbing species. To develop a superior alloy with improved performance under operation conditions, a comprehensive understanding of surface phenomena and dynamics is needed. To achieve materials with suitable hydrogen permeation properties, we have prepared NiPdAu alloys with several compositions combining the advantages of the PdNi alloys, and the high chemical resistance provided by the addition of Au1. The present work deals with the characterization of the surface properties of NiPdAu and NiPd alloys under exposure to hydrogen and CO-containing streams.
