ABSTRACT
The purpose of the present work is to
introduce an algorithm to solve a 2D inverse
problem whose forward model is nonlinear. The
forward model arises from the displacement of oil
by water in porous media. The inverse problem
consists in the estimation of oil fractional flow
curves, which are coefficients of the forward
model differential equation. We formulate an
algorithm on functional spaces prior to any
discretization. This algorithm is based on the
linearization of the solution of the forward model
with respect to the parameter functions. The
sensitivity equations that are used to compute the
Fréchet derivative are presented. The algorithm is
iterative and is of prediction-correction type. To
avoid nonuniqueness we have to consider
additional information, which is included in a
functional which is minimized during the
iterations. We use synthetic data to test the new
algorithm
