Resumen:
The aim of this empirical study was to explore the reasons why children feel happy. The sample consisted of 120 students, whose average age is 8.03, DE = 0.72. A focused interview was conducted to obtain children’s spontaneous verbal descriptions about happiness and a single-item measure, the Face Scale, was used to evaluate how happy children measure their own happiness. The interview analysis involved the content analysis technique. Most of the children reckon that family bonds, especially feelings of protection, care and love given by adults, as well as friendship are the main sources of happiness. This study contributes to understand the subjective well-being state during childhood.
