Resumen:
Because of the coup d´etat in Chile, in 1973, thousands of chileans went to the exile.  Great part of the academic community  interrupted its activities for the intervention of the universities, the closing of an important number of research centers  and for the closing of university careers, principally theses connected to Social Sciences. In United Kingdom a group of academics (so called Academics for Chile) did the first initiatives that then there was canalized in the work of the Word University Service, WUS UK. This NGO obtained financing of the Overseas Development Administration on behalf of the British government. In consequence, almost nine hundred of Chileans initiated studies of postdegrees and degrees in British universities. In this work we will try to show the connotations of this scholarships programme,  that mixed exile with academy and academic field with political field.
