This paper presents a cotrol desing based on energy methods for a group of point mass vehicles moving on a plane. We first carry out a shaping of the kinetic energy by  weighting differently vertical and horizontal velocities and then introduce virtual, potential energy and a dissipative function in order to stabilize the system in such a way, that it forms a platoon configuration
