Resumen:
AbstractLoratadine (LOR) and pseudoephedrine sulfate(PES) were determined in pharmaceutical samples by usingnon-linear second-order data generated by a pH-gradientflow injection analysis (FIA) system with diode-arraydetection. Determination of both analytes was performedon the basis of differences between the acid–base andspectral features of each drug species. Non-linearities weredetected by using both qualitative and quantitative tools. Asa consequence of the non-linearity, a recently reportedalgorithm, artificial neural networks followed by residualbilinearization (ANN/RBL), was shown to furnish moresatisfactory results. Recoveries of 99.7% (LOR) and 95.6%(PES) were obtained when analyzing a validation set containingunexpected components (the usual excipients foundin pharmaceutical preparations). The average value obtainedby implementation of the method on four replicates wascompared with that obtained by a reference method based onHPLC (difference not significant; p > 0.05).
