FluorescentsensorsforHg2+ aredemonstratingtheirpotentialinavarietyof fieldssuchasenvironmental andbiologicalapplications.Thereviewfocusesontherecentdevelopmentofrhodaminederivativesin whichthespirolactam(non-fluorescent)toring-openedamide(fluorescent)processwasutilizedandon thedevelopmentofBODIPYderivativesinwhichthephotoinducedelectrontransfer(PET)processwas utilized.Newtrendsintheimmobilizationofthemolecularprobesonsolidsupports,aspolymersand/ ornanostructures,havebeenemphasized.Thedifferentrecognitionmechanismsusedforthesignal responseshavebeenanalyzed.Thespectroscopicproperties,reactionmedia,analyticalparameters, interferencesbyotherionsandpracticalapplicationshavebeensummarized.
