Student insights on two dialogic doctoral writing initiatives in Argentina

We will present the challenges and affordances identified by participants of two dialogic teaching initiatives (writing group and writing workshop) implemented in Argentina to improve doctoral students' academic writing. Analysis of in-depth interviews with doctoral students indicated that two categories were the most relevant to the initiatives? dialogic aspect: draft exchange and participants? disciplinary backgrounds. These two characteristics seem to be major conditions to open, widen and deepen spaces of dialogue, where members encounter new voices and viewpoints that can contribute to improve the drafts. Nevertheless, participants also associated these characteristics with negative feelings, which in time become attenuated as participants increasingly get involved in dialogues with other voices.
