Resumen:
An interesting application of SLPs isolated from Bacteria or Archaea in nanotechnologyand nanoarchitectonics is their use as biotemplates for thesynthesis of metal and semi-metalnanoclusters. The S-layerscan act bothin suspension and supported on different surfaces as a template directingthe deposition or growing of crystals and noble metals in the nucleationsites on the surface of the SLP layer. This approach allows fabricating noblemetal nanoparticle arrays and noble metal-basednanostructured materialsavoiding the use of solvents and protecting agents. Thus, obtaining metalnanoparticles using bio-componentsas the SLP promises to be a powerfultool in nanotechnology, chemistry, and biochemistry area. Althoughthere are few demonstrated applications for the MNPs and nanostructuresobtained by using the nanoarchitecture of the S-layer,they present a promisinghorizon. There are still many applications to study such as antimicrobialand antitumoral activities, and magnetic and luminescent properties, aswell as their use as biosensors, in molecular diagnostics and bio-detection.Also, the study of properties afforded by the combination of the properties ofMNPs with the characteristics that other supports can offer is an emergingtopic. In this way, the study of the SLPs is waiting for new contributions andopens a lot of opportunities in areas related to the design and creation of thehierarchic organization.
