Resumen:
The present paper is an examination of Aquinas? teaching on the image and likeness of God in the recently edited Lectura romana (Lincoln College ms. Lat. 95, Bodleian Library, Oxford), within the context of his entire work. The study reveals the importance of Aquinas? criticism of Peter Lombard?s Sentences. Its goal is twofold. On the one hand, it aims at understanding in a more accurate way the Augustinian triad to name the divine image: memoria, intelligentia, voluntas. On the other hand, it delves into the reasons implicated in Aquinas? decision to compose the Summa theologiae. In this respect, it underlines the importance given by Thomas Aquinas to the distinction between considering ontological perfections secundum viam compositionis and secundum viam perfectionis, together with his consideration of freedom as manifestation and perfection of being.
