Descripción:
This work deals with the development of a comprehensive mathematical model and experiment for the curing process of a thermosetting polymer. The model predicts the evolution of molecular structure, gel point and main reaction variables (concentration of reagents and products) along the curing process, including structure-properties relationships for the prediction of quality variables. The model is comprehensive, in the sense that it can be used to simulate the curing process of mixtures of monomers of any given functionality and reactivity. For modeling the synthesis of epoxy resins, the model includes both non-catalytic and auto-catalytic reaction pathways as well as side reactions, and considers the diffusional limitations to mass transfer due to the increase in the system viscosity along the process. The model was validated and adjusted using experimental data and an excellent agreement between measured and predicted values was obtained. This development carried out under the STAN 2182
