The use of monomers and prepolymers derived from lignin and furfural as substitutes of traditional epoxy andphenolic compounds, and/or amines will be studied for the different materials of interest. In addition, differentchemical modifications will be investigated in order to enhance specific properties (the flame retardancy, mechanicalproperties, and other physicochemical properties). The activities proposed include: a) the synthesis andcharacterization of modified monomers and prepolymers derived from lignins and furfural; b) the analysis of curingprocess by different techniques (DSC, TGA, FT-IR, RMN); c) the mechanical, morphological and thermalcharacterization of polymers; d) the study of structure-properties relationships; and e) the mathematical modeling ofcuring process. The main goal is to obtain benzoxazine and epoxy-benzoxazine systems optimized from the point ofview of their performance, cost and environmental impact. This STAN is conducted under the STAN 2182
