Resumen:
ABSTRACTInternational and national regulations for the care and use of experimental animals require that Institutional Committees for the Care and Use of Animals (IACUCs)be established in institutions where laboratory animals are used for research or teaching in order to supervise, evaluate and monitor the program of care and use of animals. The composition and functions of the Latin American IACUCs are diverse due to the lack of formal training available to members. In addition, for many Latin American institutions it is not feasible to send members to training courses abroad. Also, the lack of information in Spanish complicates efforts to promote training. In order to harmonize the role among members of CICUALES in Latin America, we developed an e-learning training program in Spanish. This proposal follows the constructivist model used by Aula Virtual Bioterio for other courses through debates on animal bioethics to the study of concrete cases. The contents, Didactic and interactive educational dynamics were carefully designed to enable the realization of each stage for all the participants. The International Principles for Biomedical Research CIOMS / ICLAS was a key document for the development of this program, with also the collaboration of experts from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC), the Brazilian Society of Animal Science (SBCAL) and the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS). In order to evaluate the results and impact of the program, we voluntarily asked students to respond to an anonymous survey, which evaluated the overall program, methodology and contribution of this training in the performance of the members of IACUCs to review and modify the past experiences.
