Resumen:
Rarefaction -the loss of axons, myelin, oligodendrocytes (OLGs) and microvessels resulting in severe hypoxia/ischemia- is characteristic of white matter in AlzheimerLs Disease (AD). Additionally, augmented levels of beta-amyloid (AƒÀ) which induces oxidative stress is a major impetus in AD pathology. Regions of the brain that myelinate later in adulthood (50-60 years of age) are the first to be affected. OLGs are highly sensitive to oxidative stress. In this study, acute oxidative stress on OLGs provided evidence of CRMP2 over phosphorylation and process retraction. This could lead to neuronal dysfunction germane to AD and may be an early event in AD pathogenesis. The mechanism of Ab  induced oxidative stress on OLG dynamics is yet to be elucidated and is the focus of the future study.
