The CONICET and the Royal Society organized a workshop on materials and nano-technology

For two days, Argentine and British experts shared their different perspectives on those subjects.

On March 15th and 16th, the “Advanced materials and nano technology for energy and environmental sustainability” workshop took place at the Cultural Center of Science (C3) of the Scientific and Technological Pole. The event was organized by the National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina (CONICET) and the Royal Society of the UK.

The workshop had the support of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the UK Science & Innovation Network. It was addressed to researchers, fellows, technicians, professional support staff, and students.

For two days, the experts shared their different perspectives on materials and nano-technology for sustainable energy focused on lithium mining, the development of fuel cells and hydrogen storage.

Some of the renowned scientists who participated in the organization were professor Richard Catlow, Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society, and Arnaldo Visitin, Principal Researcher at the Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Materiales Avanzados y Almacenamiento de Energía de Jujuy (CIDMEJU, CONICET-province of Jujuy-UNJU). The scientists and Jorge Tezón, manager of Scientific and Technological Development of the Council, spoke at the opening of the seminar.

At the event, sixteen presentations were made by researchers who belong to both organizing institutions of different universities from Argentina and the UK. Furthermore, ten young CONICET researchers delivered short lectures moderated by Alejandra Palermo, a representative of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The end of the seminar was in charge of Miguel Laborde, deputy chairman of Technological Affairs of the CONICET.

On Friday 16th afternoon, Jorge Tezón and Richard Catlow held a workshop on the main current cooperation programs and the British and Argentine researchers shared their expectations, queries and possible collaboration initiatives so as to strengthen future bonds.
