Resumen:
Abstract - Panicum L. subg. Panicum includes around 100 predominantly tropical species. Of these, approximately 50 are American and they are spread from Canada to Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. It is represented in Brazil for 30 species, three of them without defined section, and the others included in sections Dichotomiflora (Hitchc. & Chase) Honda, Panicum, Rudgeana (Hitchc.) Zuloaga, Urvilleana (Hitchc. & Chase) Pilger and Virgata Hitchc. & Chase ex Pilg. These species thrive in different environments, such as "cerrados", "campos rupestres", dry and humid grasslands, swamps, dunes and disturbed places. Identification keys for these species, as well as descriptions, illustrations and data on their geographic distribution are presented. Key-words: Gramineae, Paniceae, Panicum, Brazil, taxonomy.- Panicum L. subg. Panicum includes around 100 predominantly tropical species.
