Resumen:
The taxonomy of the genus Trisetum in Mexico and Central America, including species of the related genera Peyritschia and Sphenopholis, was studied. Fifthteen species are recognized in genus Trisetum s.s. Mexico has the largest number of species, 14, eight of them endemic. Guatemala has 5 species, Costa Rica and Panamá 3, and Honduras and Dominican Republic 1 species. Three new species of Trisetum from Mexico are described and illustrated. A new subgenus is proposed (Subgen. Deschampsioideum) based on Subsect. Deschampsioidea Louis-Marie. Two of the new species, T. duranguense and T. spellenbergii, are included in the Subgen. Deschampsioideum. The third species, T. ligulatum, belongs to Subgenus Trisetum. Furthermore, a new combination for Trisetum deyeuxioides (Kunth) Kunth is proposed under Peyritschia and T. spicatum var. barbatipaleum Hultén ex Veldkamp is raised to the specific level. A key for the genera, subgenera, sections and species is given.
