Resumen:
The loess record of South America was originally reported by Charles Darwin, although under a different name. Loess distribution has been always attributed to the Chacopamepan plain. It mostly includes reworked loess (loess-like deposits) while primary fine grained eolian facies (loess) is not frequent. The occurrence of pedogenic features is ubiquitous throughout the loess stratigraphic sections. Carbonate accumulations, locally known as tosca, are a very common feature. The loess and loess like deposits are very well known for their vertebrate fossil remains. Impact glasses are a unique feature of the deposits as well as the occurrence of large burrows and caves related to megamammals. The stratigraphic record loess starts in the late Miocene and extends to the Holocene.
