Cymbella neuquina, an Argentinean species, was previously found only in Río Negro province (Argentina). Its occurrence in 4 lakes of Neuquén province extends its geographical distribution in this country. New information about its morphology is provided and its relationship with other species is discussed. A new combination is created, Cymbella neuquina var. fastigata (basionym: Cymbella cistulai var. fastigata).
