Resumen:
The effects of natural productivity and formulated feed were assessed on the growth of the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium borellii. fed and unfed prawns were cultured in floating enclosures. Survival was not significantly different between treatments (71 %). Individual average weight of fed (1.12 g) and unfed (0.48 g) prawns were significantly different. Differences in zooplankton and benthic invertebrate abundance were evident between treatments. Natural productivity supported 43 % of the prawns size reached by fed enclosures.
