Resumen:
Invasive freshwater molluscs have potential negative impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and human activities. A sampling program was conducted in five watercourses from SW Buenos Aires province to detect exotic species with invasive potential. Six species of exotic molluscs and six native ones were recorded. Two exotic species have increased their frequency and distribution as compared to previous records. All sites with molluscs had at least one exotic species and 26% of them had at least 50% of exotic species. Using potential distribution models for the two most recently detected exotic species it was determined that one has no chance of becoming established in SW Buenos Aires province whereas the other would be able to settle in nearby basins. The potential distribution of the other exotic species registered will be analysed and through forthcoming sampling their expansion will be assessed.
