Resumen:
The application of the Parsimony Analysis of Endemicity (PAE) based on areas of endemism to distributional data of 34 species of Ceratopogonidae from southern South America resulted in a single cladogram, depicting the following relationships: ((Monte Patagonian steppe) (Central Chile (Magellanic Moorland (Magellanic Forest (Maule, Valdivian Forest))))). The comparison of the obtained results with previous biogeographic studies shows interesting differences, which could be related to the different habitats of the taxa employed for each one. The situation reflects the need of phylogenetic data for southern South America aquatic taxa, in order to improve the capability of historic biogeographic analysis of this area.
