Resumen:
Fosfomycin is an antibiotic widely used for the treatment and prevention of swine infections caused by resistant bacteria. The aim of this research was to study the penetration of fosfomycin in an in vitro model of intestinal cells (IPEC-J2 cells). Cells cultures were subjected to 580 μg/mL of calcium fosfomycin. Intracellular concentrations of the antibiotic were analyzed by HPLC MS/MS and they ranged from 23.48 to 45.81 μg/mL (Tmax: 4 h). Fosfomycin concentrations exceeded the MIC90 for the most important pathogens in swine intestinal infections (Escherichia coli: 0.50 μg/mL, Salmonella enterica subsp. Enterica: 4 μg/mL). Therefore, it is apparent that fosfomycin is an alternative for the treatment of intestinal infections in pigs
