Resumen:
In this effort, the flow induced vibrations over arrays of circular-cross-section cylinders is analyzed in the context of wind energy harvesting. The objective of the study is to quantify the energy generation potential of the cylindrical bodies exploiting the aerodynamic interference between them. To this end, the mechanical power delivered by the airstream to the harvesters is analyzed as a function of the amount of bodies in the array and the separation between them. The problem is studied by solving the URANS (Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations with the k-omega-SST turbulence model using the OpenFoam software. The results provide evidence that the proper selection of the separation between the harvesters can result in an increase in the power generated by each individual harvester.
