Resumen:
Wind Energy harvesting devices represent a potential alternative to small batteries for powering low-consumption small electronic devices, such as wireless sensors, radiofrequency transceiver, small cameras, and so on. Amongst the various mechanisms of energy harvesting, those based on the aeroelastic phenomena of flutter and vortex-induced vibrations are the most popular. In this article, the vortex-induced vibrations phenomenon in an array of two bluff bodies immersed in an airflow is analyzed. OpenFoam is employed to carry out the CFD simulations. The influence of the spacing between the bodies on the frequency and the amplitude of the power transferred to the moving body by the fluid is analyzed. The goal of this study is to assess the potential of these arrays for wind energy harvesting applications.
