La complejidad de las ecuaciones
de la MGD puede ser reducida por medio de aproximaciones basadas en
consideraciones de ingeniería. Un modelo simplificado de flujo MGD dentro de un
micro-propulsor magnetoplasmadinámico ablativo (AMPD) para microsatélites fue
obtenido considerando un fluido compresible perfectamente conductor que se
mueve en un campo magnético transversal. Este modelo permite estudiar el flujo
magnetizado como uno equivalente isoentrópico de un gas no conductor.
