Resumen:
Pharmacokinetic population parameters were estimated using nonlinear mixed effects modeling method implemented in NONMEM version V. Inter-individual variability (IIV) was modeled using an exponential error model and a mixed proportional and additive error model was employed for the residual error description. Patient specific characteristics (e.g. age, weight, creatinine clearance) were evaluated for possible associations with pharmacokinetic parameters.  A one-compartment model was considered as the base model. The population pharmacokinetic parameters obtained for the structural model were clearance (CL): 3.0 L/h and volume of distribution (V): 8.04.  A large inter-individual variability was observed accounting for 62.9 % and 45.2 % for CL and V, respectively. Weight normalization of the dose was significantly related to clearance, explaining 71% of the inter-inidvidual in amikacin clearance. Thus, the population pharmacokinetic parameters including weight in the model were CL: 0.173 L/h*kg, V: 0.484 L/kg. A trend towards a positive relationship between amikacin clearance and creatinine clearance was observed though no statistical significance was achieved
