Resumen:
Poly (beta-hydroxyalkanoate)s, PHAs, constitute a family of natural biodegradable polyesters produced by bacteria as reserve of carbon and energy source in intracytoplasmic granules. They have similar properties to non-biodegradable petrochemical-based polymers. A major limiting in the widespread use of PHAs is in the production cost thereof. In this work, the potential of production of PHA of Bacillus megaterium BBST4 strain, cultured in a minimal medium of low cost, using glycerol as carbon sources and urea as nitrogen source, is correlated through multivariate statistical analysis to developed a rapid quantitative determination technique of extractable intracellular biopolymer in the strain.
