Resumen:
Classic metabolic network design by optimization of some measure of metabolite concentration can generate unstable, and therefore physiologically vulnerable systems. In order to force asymptotic stability of the resulting equilibrium point, additional constraints should be included in the design formulation. In this contribution an eigenvalue optimization approach is applied to the stable design of metabolic networks. The proposed approach forces the real part of the eigenvalue of the Jacobean matrix of the dynamic system to be strictly negative ensuring therefore asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point.
