Resumen:
A proper characterization of polymer samples often requires simultaneous information on distributions of several properties. This requirement should be taken into account in the development of high-fidelity models of polymer processes to be used in model-based engineering. Here a methodology for modeling bivariate distributions of polymer properties is described. It is based on the transformation of the infinite set of population balance equations using 2D probability generating functions. This technique does not require any prior assumption on the shape of the distribution, is easy to implement and requires reasonable computational resources. In this way detailed information of the polymer microstructure can be obtained that can be very useful to the design and operation of polymer processes.
