Resumen:
As the result of his rejectionof metaphysical realism and its “God’s eye perspective”, Roberto Torrettiadvocated for a pragmatic realism thatfits the way scientists work in everyday practice. To argue for his position,Torretti takes some cases in the field of physics as examples, in whichphysicists have not hesitated to combine incompatible theories in order toobtain their results. The aim of the present article is to add a new example infavor of pragmatic realism, but in this case coming from chemistry: the use of Born-Oppenheimerapproximation in the field of quantum chemistry and its role in the explanationof molecular structure.
