BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by microvascular damage and fibrosis.Galectins (Gal) are β-galactoside binding proteins, playing roles in adhesion, signaling, differentiation and apoptosis. Gal-1 is immunoregulatory and Gal-3 proinflamatory and profibrotic. No difference in circulating Gal-1 between SSc and controls nor between limited (lcSSc) and difusse (dcSSc) SSc has been demonstrated1. Diminished and augmented circulating Gal-3 is reported in SSc2,3. High circulating Gal-3 is associated with digital ulcers and pulmonary artery hypertension3 (PAH). Other reports failed to prove association between Gal-3 and clinical features4.We aim to asses circulating Gal-1 and Gal-3 in SSc patients and evaluate association with clinical features.METHODS: Descriptive, transversal study. Our SSc database (2014-17) was analyzed. Patients ≥16 years fulfilling ACR/EULAR criteria with stored serum sample were included. Incomplete data patients were excluded. We assessed demographics; evolution time; variant (lcSSc, dcSSc, sine scleroderma ? sSSc); Clinical features: Skin involvement (edematous/fibrous), calcinosis, telangiectasia, arthritis, muscle weakness, Raynaud, intersticial lung disease (ILD), PAH, pitting scars, digital ulcers, amputation and dysphagia; Specific (anti topoisomerase I, centromere and RNA polymerase III) and other autoantibodies (ANA, U1 RNP); Connective tissue disease (CTD) overlap.Gals were determined from stored samples.RESULTS: 159 patients screened. 86 met inclusion criteria with complete data.Table 1 shows demographics, autoantibodies and clinical features.
