Resumen:
During the last 25 years human bone remains of at least 44 individuals of both sexes and various ages at death were recovered from the Arroyo Seco 2 site (Buenos Aires, República Argentina). On the basis of several radiocarbon dates from human bone collagen, an early to middle-Holocene age was attributed to most of these burials (ca. 8000–6300 yr B.P.). By employing a craniofacial reconstruction technique based on the analysis of digitized images we were recently able to reliably measure 8 Howellian facial variables on a subsample of 10 adult individuals. In order to assess the biological affinities of the Arroyo Seco sample with respect to  prehistoric and modern North and South American populations, comparisons were performed by means of principal component analysis based on shape information alone. The results indicate that, despite the remarkable overall morphological similarity among most of the early- to middle-Holocene South American samples compared with worldwide populations, there is a consistent pattern of differentiation within these samples on a continental scale.
