PARTNER 7 UBA FIRST ANNUAL REPORT: covering period from 1.11.2002 to 31.10.2003 SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES AND RESULTS Overview During the 1st year period of the ACCESS project, the work at UBA was centred on:  (i) the evaluation of different agricultural plots with herbicide treatment and further selection of those providing the desired soil samples for all project participants was carried out (D1);  (ii) the establishment of soil-plant microcosms designed for assessing the effect of plants on the removal on herbicides as well as for monitoring the changes in microbial communities present in these soils (D6) and  (iii) the optimisation of nucleic acids extraction from soil and analyses of the microbial communitiy structure in collaboration with partner MLURI (D1).
