Extreme-value analysis is con cerned with. the largest (or smallest) values in a record or in a set of several records. Knowledge of the probability distribution of these extremes is of great practical importance. These researcli analyzed the coherence of monthly preclpitation and temperature, its annual variability and its relationship with latitude and/or longitude. Time series were selected from the humid and semi-humid zone of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Soutli of Braril with a minimum offorty years periodo The cross-associatior¡ coefficients between monthly precipitation and temperature among stations are analyzed. The frequencies of sequences of wet and dry months are fitted as a negative binomial distribution
