The main goal of this work is to analyzed planetary and regional features ofthe atmospheric circulation that impact in the extreme rainfall on Argentina. Theanalysis has been made on the basis of the leading pattern of covariabiltybetween spring the daily intensity of extreme rainfall (DIER) index in Argentinaand sea surface temperature (SST) for all the oceans from 17.5 N to 90 S.This analysis was performed using a Singular Values Decomposition (SVD) forspring in the period 1962 to 2005. Two data sets were used to the SVDanalysis: monthly SST from the Kaplan SST V2 from the NCEP/NCAR and highquality daily rainfall for 35 surface stations from the National Weather Serviceof Argentina distributed throughout the country. The monthly mean of DIER isthe quotient between the monthly accumulated extreme rainfall (AE) and thenumber of days with extreme precipitation events per month (PE).....
