Resumen:
To the Editor,Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is a major cause of enterically transmittedhepatitis worldwide. While HEV typically causes an acute selflimitedinfection, genotypes 3 and 4 have been associated with chronichepatitis in immunosuppressed individuals.1,2 Several studies haveshown that patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) have a higher seroprevalenceof HEV than the general population.3-5 The dynamics ofHEV infection in this population, such as the incidence of new andchronic infections as well as temporal variations in seropositivity, arepoorly understood. To assess the dynamics of HEV infection in thispopulation, we prospectively evaluated individuals with end-stagerenal disease (ESRD) undergoing HD at a private hospital in Cordoba,Argentina, between November 2014 and November 2017.
