Resumen:
The aim of this study was to analyze theprevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes in Co´ rdobaprovince, Argentina, over a 12-year period and tostudy the changes at the molecular level. The HCV genotypewas determined in 357 HCV-infected patients, and thephylogeny and demographic reconstruction for HCV-1 wasassessed. A significant reduction in HCV-2 prevalence withrespect to HCV-1 in Co´rdoba after 2003 was observed. These findings are consistent with the epidemiologicalchanges observed in South America. Nevertheless, theconsequences of these changes remain to be elucidated.
