Resumen:
Electrospun fibers are very versatile platforms for awide variety of applications. They have been extensively explored for drugdelivery because of their high loading capacity and high encapsulationefficiency, from small molecules like antibiotics or anticancer agents toproteins, DNA and RNA [1]. Their composition and microstructure can be easilytuned to face up to diverse therapeutic demands. Natural cyclodextrins (CDs)and their derivatives have been used as components of electrospun fibers, solely or mixed with polymers, to facilitate the release of hydrophobic drugs[2]. However, the hydrophilic character of CDs may lead to a rapiddisintegration of the fibers in contact with water. The aim of this work was toimplement an electrospinning procedure to obtain fibers from polyCDs as a wayto endow the fibers with affinity-controlled drug loading and release. PolyaCD and polybCD were prepared via cross-linking withepichlorohydrin (EPI) as water-soluble long molecular weight polymers [3].Then, polyCDs forming complexes with fluconazole were mixed with poly(e-caprolactone) or poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) forelectrospinning. Obtained fibers showed a random distribution and diameters inthe 400-800 nm range. They exhibited good thermal stability and sustained fluconazolerelease for several hours.
