Resumen:
According to the fundamental theory, the interaction ofelectromagnetic field with matter is well described by Maxwell?sequations [1]. Нe thing is, if we disturb the matter applying analternant potential diوٴerence through it a resonance phenomenontakes place. If we capture that response as a signal it is possible tointerpret what is happening inside. And, this word inside is probablythe most attractive thing when we are dealing with alive organismsbecause we want to study them without damaging them.During the last decades researchers of very diverse disciplines havebeen using a very powerful technique known as ImpedanceSpectroscopy (IS) or Dielectric Spectroscopy (DS). Such technique is apowerful method commonly used in electrochemistry, materialscience, semiconductor industry and sensors, etc. Нe theoretical baseof IS the complex impedance as function of a set of frequencies (ortime). Depending on the frequency applied is the process (or theprocesses) that respond to the external electrical field. As everythingsounds great why do not we try to use it in biology and medicine?Studies on the electrical properties of biological tissues have beengoing on since the late 18th century [2]. НomDsset explored theutilization of bioimpedance measurement in total body waterestimation using needle electrodes [3]. Nyboer applied quad surfaceelectrode readings for bioimpedance measurements to estimate the fatfree mass of the human body [1,4]. +oوٴer introduced the associationbetween total body impedance and total body water content inreference to tritium dilution techniques [5,6].
