Strategic Planning in the city of Córdoba - Argentina

In the period from 1991-1999 the Strategic Development Plan, was started in order to make Cordoba a competitive city. The strategy should be to take advantege of its location, its natural resources and its human and institutional resources that are recognized, due to their prestige, in national and international circles.Using strong leadership and political will as a foundation, the goal was to stimulate transformations in the city. One of the pioneer projacts advanced by Cordoba´s government is the Strategic Plan for Córdoba (SPC), which is declared to be a participatory, holistic and flexible planning methodology. The interest of this article is to explore the development of this new planning approach in Córdoba, trying to examine both its strengths and weaknesess. We provide a glipmse into some of the urban projacts that have been devised -and, in some cases, have materialized- as well as those linket to the actual SPC that have emerged.
